“It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.”
— Joseph Joubert

SAI International hosted the SAI Global Debate for the 5th time on January 18, 2025. Over 300 participants from 32 schools, made up of institutions across the globe, were present at the online event.

The panel included Ms Rittika Chanda Parruck, MBE, Director of Education at the British Council in India, as the chief guest, and Mr John Snell, Executive Head of Schools, England, as the guest of honour, further elevating the event's intellectual significance.

AN INTERESTING FORUM FOR MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION

The debate featured different formats, including Turncoat, Extempore, and Conventional Debate, pressing participants to study and ponder over pressing global issues.

In juniors, the preliminary round conveyed the ethical dilemmas for the government and corporate curtailments for posting anything publicly online to preempt fake news floated through the internet. The final round assessed the effects of virtual reality as propounded by its ability to revolutionise the systems of education, where participants viewed this tool as transforming learning and, at the same time, addressing issues like accessibility and a mere dependency on technology.

Consequently, the senior category had researched equally thought-provoking topics. The preliminary round debaters began debating the moral dilemmas of ubiquitous surveillance throughout the digital domain, and the finals were about the powers and obligations of these big tech enterprises. The debate helped in the sharpening and in-depth analysis of contemporary critical thinking on matters such as data privacy, monopolies by multinational corporations, and the ethical use of technology.

Schools like Bal Bharati Public School, Dwarka, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Vidyasharam, Jaipur, Choithram Schools, Indore, etc., which represent these prestigious schools from India, attended the event. The latter schools are now the brand ambassadors of the creation, and they pulled awe from thousands of children from quite a few others. The international entity, which is Starehe Boys’ Centre & School, Kenya, was also part of the global family’s strengthening.

A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR GLOBAL DISCOURSE

The 5th edition of Global Debate SAI reaffirms the school’s pledge to make great statesmen out of young leaders who can deal with present global challenges by creating an environment of intellectual inquisition and rich discourse and continues to set a benchmark in learning other than locomotion.
