When traditions are lived, not just learned, they become a part of who we are.” - Anonymous

SAI International Residential School (SIRS) came alive with the vibrant spirit of tradition and culture as students joyfully celebrated Pana Sankranti, marking the Odia New Year. The celebration was thoughtfully designed as a hands-on learning experience in the school cafeteria, where students actively participated in preparing Pana, the traditional and sacred drink associated with this auspicious occasion.

With curiosity and enthusiasm, young learners explored the ingredients and process involved in making Pana using bel, raw mango, jaggery, fruits, pepper, coconut and curd, just as it has been prepared through generations. This engaging activity went beyond simple preparation and allowed students to connect meaningfully with their cultural roots.

The celebration highlighted the values of togetherness, gratitude and respect for heritage. As students worked collaboratively, they experienced the joy of shared traditions while understanding the significance behind them.

Such initiatives reflect SIRS’s commitment to experiential learning, where education extends beyond textbooks to include cultural awareness and life skills. The activity served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and proudly carrying forward our rich traditions.

It was truly an enriching experience where culture and learning came together in the most delightful way.
