When the Spirit Rises Above Every Challenge: SIRS Celebrates India’s 80th Independence Day

SAI International Residential School celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with pride, discipline and an inspiring demonstration of resilience. The morning commenced with the arrival of the distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Tirthabasi Sahoo, Chief Veterinary Officer (SG), 03 BN NDRF, Mundali, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag and a proud Guard of Honour presented by the students. The Tricolour fluttering against the morning sky set the tone for a celebration centred on freedom, patriotism and the responsibilities of being citizens of a proud nation.

As the celebrations progressed, an unexpected spell of rain brought a change in plans. However, the spirit of SIRS remained undeterred. With remarkable adaptability and determination, the March Past was shifted indoors to the school corridor, where students continued their march with the same discipline, enthusiasm and patriotic pride. The unexpected change of venue became a powerful reflection of the SIRS ethos: when circumstances change, commitment remains unchanged. The moment truly echoed the spirit of “The show must go on!”

The ceremonial proceedings then continued at the Astaranga Auditorium, where the SIRS community welcomed Chief Guest Dr. Tirthabasi Sahoo. A dedicated officer serving the nation, Dr. Sahoo has been associated with the NDRF since 2023 and has received multiple commendations for his distinguished service, including DG’s Commendations in 2018, 2025 and 2026, along with an IG’s Appreciation in 2026.

The formal programme commenced with the Welcome Address by Associate Director & Headmaster, Shri Amitabh Agnihotri, who extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and the entire SIRS community. This was followed by a citation honouring Dr. Sahoo's service and achievements. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest shared inspiring thoughts and motivating words with the young SAIoneers, encouraging them to embrace discipline, courage, responsibility and service in their own journeys. The school subsequently felicitated Dr. Sahoo as a gesture of gratitude and honour.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Deputy Headmaster, Mr. Soumyadipto Maitra, bringing the Independence Day ceremony to a graceful close.

From the open parade ground to the school corridor, and from the unexpected rain to an auditorium filled with patriotic fervour, the celebration beautifully captured the essence of Independence Day. It stood as a reminder that true strength lies in responding to challenges with courage, remaining disciplined in action, united in spirit and determined to keep moving forward.
