SAI International Hosts the 18th National Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged

SAI International Residential School, in collaboration with the All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB), successfully hosted the prestigious 18th National Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged on its campus. This highly competitive event brought together 54 skilled chess players from 15 states and union territories across India, showcasing extraordinary talent and strategic brilliance.

The grand opening ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson of SAI International Education Group; Shri B. K. Swain, Secretary, Dept. of Sports & Youth Services, Govt. of Odisha; Shri Sanyasi Behera, the first visually impaired OAS officer; and Shri Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Asian Para Games Gold Medalist. The event also welcomed Shri Kishan Gangolli (Vice President, AICFB), Shri Swapnil Shah (Treasurer, AICFB), and International Master Shri Swayangsu Satyapragyan, whose inspiring words motivated the participants.

The championship, which follows a 9-round individual format, provides a platform for visually challenged chess players to compete at the highest level. Maharashtra led the participation with 11 players, while Odisha was represented by four players—Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Subhendu Kumar Patra, Prachurya Kumar Pradhan, and Deepak Kumar Bhoi. The winners of this championship will earn the esteemed opportunity to represent India in international competitions in Serbia and Poland, further solidifying their place on the global stage.

Adding to the event’s impact, students from PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), PM Shri KV No.3, and Godisahi High School attended the championship, reinforcing the message of inclusion and inspiration through sports. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by International Master Shri Swayangsu Satyapragyan, acknowledging the contributions of participants, dignitaries, and organizers.
