From October 4th to 6th, 2024, a delegation from SAI International Residential School participated in the AFS East Regional Meet, hosted by Royal Global School and Maria’s Public School, Guwahati. Comprising two students and the AFS Coordinator, the team embarked on a journey marked by cultural immersion, sustainability initiatives, and collaborative learning, further strengthening their ties with fellow participants across the region.
The meet kicked off with a visit to Guwahati’s iconic Kamakhya Temple and Fancy Bazar, setting a spiritual and vibrant tone for the days ahead. The delegation then joined an introductory session at Royal Global School, where discussions on sustainability showcased the importance of global collaboration in addressing environmental issues. "Our students demonstrated leadership and internationalism, embodying the Round Square values we cherish," said Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson, SAI International Education Group.
On Day 2, the delegates visited Akshara Forum, where they learned about innovative educational models focusing on sustainability through plastic recycling. A cultural tour of Assam continued in the evening at Kohuwa Bon, where the students immersed themselves in the rich traditions of Assamese culture, sharing dances and games with their peers. Headmaster, Shri Amitabh Agnihotri expressed pride in the students, stating, “This event provided our students with invaluable exposure to cultural diversity and global perspectives."
The final day saw the group attending the valedictory ceremony at Maria’s Public School, where delegates from AFS member schools shared their experiences. A performance of the AFS Anthem, cultural exhibitions, and technological displays at the ATL Lab further enriched the experience. A visit to AAMAR GHAR, an old-age home, allowed students to connect with the elderly and reflect on the importance of family and values. The meet concluded with a brief exploration of the modern side of Guwahati at NEDFI HAAT and City Centre Mall, followed by a reflective journey home, despite a flight delay. The SAI delegation returned with a wealth of knowledge, memories, and friendships that embodied the spirit of internationalism and learning.
