Founder’s Cup Debate 2025: A Celebration of Oratory, Vision, and Critical Thought

On September 18, 2025, the halls of the Astaranga Auditorium at SAI International Residential School resonated with intellect and passion as the prestigious Founder’s Cup Debate 2025 unfolded, part of the ongoing Founder’s Memorial Series. Instituted in memory of the visionary Founder, Late Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, the debate continues to uphold his belief in fearless speech, critical thinking, and empathetic listening.

The program commenced with a ceremonial welcome and bouquet presentation to the esteemed panel of judges: Dr Sthitaprajna, Associate Professor, Dept. of HSS, ITER, SOA University; Dr Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson, SAI International Education Group; and Shri Nilakantha Panigrahi, Senior Principal and Academic Director. Anchors traced the debate’s journey from its inception in 2009 as the Chairman’s Cup Debate, highlighting its legacy of nurturing student voices.

This year’s edition witnessed 16 spirited participants across two gripping sessions. The first session featured proposition and opposition speakers from Classes IX and X, who deliberated on the pressing topic: “Should Governments Implement Universal Basic Income as a Solution to Poverty and Job Displacement?”. The second session saw equally powerful arguments from Classes XI and XII, debating “Can India Ensure Equitable Access to Technology and Bridge the Digital Divide, Especially in Rural Areas?”.

Adding depth to the event, Chairperson Dr Silpi Sahoo moderated the discussions, drawing out diverse perspectives and enriching the intellectual exchange. External Judge Dr Sthitaprajna later shared her reflections, inspiring students to debate with conviction yet remain open to learning.

The event concluded with the presentation of mementoes and a heartfelt vote of thanks. The words that lingered in every heart were a timeless reminder: “Debate as if you’re right, but listen in case you’re wrong.”

The Founder’s Cup Debate 2025 was more than a competition; it was a powerful testament to the legacy of the Late Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo, who believed in the power of student voices to shape a brighter, more thoughtful tomorrow.
