“Don’t use a five-dollar word when a fifty-cent word will do.” — Mark Twain
Why do we need a higher or a stronger vocabulary? Vocabulary is the foundation of comprehension. Vajra House Teachers of SAI International Residential School held a session on ‘Lexicons’ (learning new words) it means new word or words pertaining to a language or dictionary words.
A stronger vocabulary help in a lot of ways like it gives your child the ability to say what he or she means it and helps him understand. It boosts their ability to grasp ideas and think more logically. By knowing many words describing ideas, events and emotions become easy while sharing. It helps in communicating and engaging in a better way.
During the session the students were informed about new 1400 words that have been added in the Oxford Dictionary recently.
Some of the words are “idiocity,” which means ignorant and foolish people, mostly used by politicians. Another word is “trapo,” which means traditional politicians, and another word is “bongga,” which means stylish, extravaganza, fashionable etc. in order to know more words one needs to read more, students were requested to read regularly to update themselves to improve their vocabulary.
It was an informative session for the students of SIRS.
