“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than they seek.” – John Muir
On March 24, 2026, the campus of SAI International Residential School, Cuttack, buzzed with excitement as students and staff gathered for a much-anticipated educational excursion under Kaleidoscope 2026. The day promised not just a break from routine, but an opportunity to step into the natural world and experience learning in its most vibrant form. A group of 92 enthusiastic participants, comprising 78 students and 14 staff members, set out on their journey to Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar. The morning air was filled with chatter, curiosity, and the thrill of adventure as the group began this meaningful exploration beyond the classroom.
A Walk Through Nature’s Classroom
Nandankanan, known for its rich biodiversity and natural habitat, offered students a firsthand glimpse into the fascinating world of wildlife. As they moved through the lush greenery of the park, they encountered a diverse array of animals, including majestic big cats, graceful deer, vibrant birds, intriguing reptiles, and playful monkeys. Each sighting sparked excitement and wonder, turning every moment into a learning opportunity. Students observed not just the animals, but also their behaviours, habitats, and interactions within the ecosystem. This immersive experience helped bridge the gap between textbook knowledge and real-world understanding, making concepts of biodiversity and ecology come alive in a powerful way.
Learning Beyond Books
The excursion was more than just a visit. It was an educational journey that deepened students’ awareness of conservation and environmental responsibility. Witnessing wildlife in a protected environment highlighted the importance of preserving natural habitats and respecting the delicate balance of ecosystems. Teachers and staff guided discussions, encouraged observations, and helped students reflect on what they saw, making the learning process interactive and engaging. The experience fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and a sense of responsibility toward the environment.
