SAI International Residential School conducted a virtual Service in Action Symposium on May 6 2021. The event had 46 schools joining us from 11 countries. Community Service is well integrated into the Round Square ethos. We had a detailed discussion on Volunteering by keynote speaker Shri Sujit Mohapatra, Founder Bakul Foundation, India joining us on the forum. He spoke on the normal perspectives of what community service looked like in the past, forcing students to think of new and creative acts of service that can be done via the virtual mode. Students usually choose to work in an area that is in close proximity to where you live thus benefiting the local community. It provides no monetary gain, people volunteer their time and resources without selfish motives. It is an opportunity to give back to society and garner a sense of being one with the community while championing a cause.

“How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” ― Maya Angelou Your Turn Meeting took place between students of SAI International School and Jr. & Sr. High School of Kogakuin University Japan on May 7th, 2021. The discussion centered around the social expectation of men and woman Japan and India. After a two month break due to exams schedules of both the India and Japan schools the weekly Your Turn Meetings are back. The role of women in public life and in the social context has changed in the last few decades. From the role of a bread maker it has changed to bread winner in many cases. Business and cultural environments have exerted a great influence on these roles.

Dr. Somyadipta Satpathy delivered an alumni talk with SAIoneers on April 30, 2021. He spoke in a very grounded and with soft spoken mannerisms to students in detail about his journey so far. From the start he mentioned that he was much more comfortable with numbers and knew that he would definitely opt for Engineering. Yet within a short time, when he got the option of studying biology, he made up his mind for opting for medical too. He was one of those very few lucky ones who had cleared both Engineering and Medical with top grades.
