Building Champions Beyond Borders: Bhutan–India Sports Immersion at SIRS

SAI International Residential School had the proud privilege of hosting a 30-member delegation of school sports instructors from the Royal Government of Bhutan under the Bhutan–India Immersion Training Program. The initiative aimed at strengthening professional capacity, advancing sports pedagogy, and fostering international cooperation through meaningful knowledge exchange.

The programme commenced on 7 January 2026 with a warm traditional Tikka welcome, setting a gracious tone of mutual respect and cultural camaraderie. Over the following days, the delegates participated in intensive training sessions covering school sports coaching philosophy, physical literacy, talent identification, fitness assessment, sports management, and athlete nutrition. These sessions were expertly conducted by professionals from Sportify in collaboration with the SIRS Sports Department.

A distinctive feature of the programme was the extensive on-ground engagement, including collaborative football sessions with SIRS students and Bhutanese-led practical modules. These interactive experiences enabled a vibrant exchange of ideas, methodologies, and best practices in school sports coaching.

The delegation also visited premier schools and the world-class Kalinga Stadium, where they interacted with Indian athletes and observed high-performance sports ecosystems in action. These visits provided valuable insights into advanced infrastructure, training systems, and athlete development frameworks.

The immersion programme culminated on 12 January with a valedictory ceremony, during which certificates were awarded to the participants. The Bhutanese delegation presented a token of gratitude to the school, symbolising a shared commitment to friendship, excellence, and sporting harmony between India and Bhutan.

The delegation departed on 13 January, carrying with them not only enhanced professional insights but also lasting bonds of goodwill, collaboration, and a shared vision for nurturing future champions through sport and education.
