"A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people."Mahatma Gandhi

In a lively tribute to cultural heritage, SAI International Residential School introduced RIDS Activity-II (In House), an impressive initiative called “Revival of Traditional Games from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the U.K.” This dynamic, multi-stage program engaged students in the rich traditions of ancient sports such as Kho Kho, Ha-Du-Du (Kabaddi), Tug of War, and Hopscotch, promoting not just physical abilities but also global friendship and cultural appreciation.

Laying the Foundation: Preparatory Discussions

The journey began with a preparatory session on February 15, 2025, where the PE & Sports department, led by the Dean of Sports, conducted an intensive briefing in the Digital Lab. Coaches and student council members collaborated in designing a robust activity planner, finalising logistics, timelines, and implementation strategies for the inter-country sporting exchange. This blueprint served as the backbone of the entire programme, ensuring seamless execution.

Digging Deeper: Student-led Research & Exploration

Between February 17 to 20, 200 students plunged into research mode, exploring the history, evolution, rules, and modern relevance of the four traditional games. Using the library, digital tools, and video resources, students gained deep insights into the cultural significance and mechanics of each game. Mentored by coaches and facilitators, this phase not only built foundational knowledge but also instilled pride in global traditions.

Transforming Knowledge to Practice: Marking and Demonstration

From February 21 to 28, the campus witnessed a flurry of activity as playing fields were meticulously marked for each game. Students worked closely with sports staff to understand measurement, ground layout, and logistical needs. This was followed by live skill demonstrations, where biomechanical insights and game strategies were discussed, laying the groundwork for active participation.

Sharpening Skills: Technique & Tactic Learning

Between March 1 and 4, the fields came alive as students trained under game-specific coaches, learning age-appropriate techniques and tactical strategies. Through simulation-based drills and mock game sessions, students-built confidence and competence, culminating in the formation of national teams that would represent their assigned countries in the upcoming competitions.

Where Culture Meets Competition: Inter-Country Games

From March 5 to 21, the true spirit of RIDS shone bright with an inter-country traditional sports competition. Each country hosted its native game, with India leading Kho Kho, followed by Bangladesh, the UK, and Sri Lanka. The event was more than just a competition; it was a cultural exchange that celebrated heritage and fostered mutual respect.

Highlights of the competition included:

· Sri Lanka’s girls and India’s boys winning Kho Kho
· Bangladesh dominating Ha-Du-Du across genders
· Sri Lanka leading Hopscotch, and
· UK’s boys and Sri Lanka’s girls triumphing in Tug of War

This stage not only assessed physical prowess but also echoed unity, respect, and shared global traditions.

Reinforcing Learning: Worksheets & Quiz

On April 16 & 17, academic reflection took centre stage. Through structured worksheets and an inter-country quiz, students revisited what they learned about each sport. With over 65% of participants scoring in the “Excellent” and “Good” range, the activity successfully bridged physical learning with intellectual reinforcement. The quiz finale saw Team Bangladesh clinch the top spot, showcasing their strong grasp of the curriculum.

The Grand Finale: Assembly & Celebration

The journey culminated in a grand assembly presentation on April 23, held at the Astaranga Auditorium. Student representatives delivered insightful seminars and video presentations summarising each game and its key takeaways. The Dean of Sports delivered a compelling narrative of the entire initiative’s educational impact. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, recognising winners and contributors, making it a proud moment for all involved.

A Celebration of Unity Through Diversity

RIDS Activity-II was more than a series of sporting events, it was an educational movement that celebrated cultural revival, international unity, and holistic learning. By immersing students in the traditions of multiple nations, the programme-built bridges across borders, empowered young minds, and preserved the spirit of traditional sports for future generations. As the applause fades, the impact lingers in stronger bodies, wiser minds, and hearts more connected to heritage.
