In alignment with its commitment to nurturing informed, health-conscious, and socially responsible students, SAI International Residential School observed World Liver Day on April 19, 2025, through special assemblies conducted by the Junior and Senior Schools. These thoughtfully curated sessions aimed to raise awareness about liver health and the preventive measures that can be adopted from a young age to ensure long-term well-being.
The assemblies served as a valuable platform to educate students about the importance of liver care and to instil a deeper understanding of how lifestyle choices impact this vital organ. This year’s global theme, “Food is Medicine,” was the central focus of the discussions, emphasising how balanced nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining liver health and overall wellness.
The Junior School assembly introduced young learners to the basics of liver function and the significance of good nutrition. The concept of “Hepatotoxicity”—the word of the day—was explained in a simplified and relatable manner, helping students understand how certain foods, medicines, and substances can negatively affect the liver. The presentation included interactive segments, visual aids, and a short skit that encouraged students to make mindful choices, such as avoiding junk food, staying hydrated, and engaging in regular physical activity. The session concluded with a news roundup and reflection time, allowing students to connect the information with real-world scenarios and think critically about their habits.
The Senior School assembly took a more in-depth approach, focusing on liver-related diseases and the importance of early diagnosis and prevention. The term “Cirrhosis” was introduced as the word of the day, offering students insight into one of the most serious liver conditions caused by prolonged damage and scarring of liver tissue. Students discussed the impact of poor dietary choices, alcohol consumption, and sedentary lifestyles, while also learning about the significance of regular health screenings and timely medical consultations. The assembly included a poignant poetry recitation, which artistically captured the connection between health and human emotion, and concluded with the National Pledge, invoking a sense of unity and responsibility toward building a healthier nation.
Both assemblies were more than just informative—they reflected the school’s enduring belief in holistic education that develops not just the intellect but also emotional and physical well-being. Through this initiative, students were not only made aware of liver health but were also encouraged to become ambassadors of wellness within their families and communities.
World Liver Day at SAI International Residential School was a reminder that health education is a critical component of 21st-century learning. By fostering awareness and instilling healthy habits from a young age, the school continues to empower its students to lead purposeful and balanced lives.
